The Chennaiyin FC co-owner thanked the fans of FC Goa for turning up in numbers, backed the ISL to improve even further in the years to come…
Chennaiyin FC broke FC Goa’s hearts when they edged past them 3-2 in the Indian Super League (ISL) final on Sunday evening. An own goal by Laxmikant Kattimani and an injury time winner by John Mendoza helped Chennaiyin FC win their maiden ISL title.
Chennaiyin FC co-owner Abhishek Bachchan was proud of the efforts put in by his players and believes that the standard of football in the ISL has only gone up by several notches.
“I’m very with this triumph and this is for Chennai. This win is dedicated to the city of Chennai. I would like to congratulate Goa. From the time we landed, the fans have been wonderful. If this level of football that continues to happen in the ISL then nothing can stop it,” said Bachchan.
He stated that after Jofre Mateu scored the second goal for Goa in the 87th minute, he thought that they had lost the game. However, he praised coach Marco Materazzi for inculcating a fighting spirit within his squad which helped them get over the line eventually.
“When Goa scored I thought it was over. But this is football, things like this happen. We won it in the last minute. The ‘never say die’ attitude is what Marco has instilled in us. It’s unbelievable that six weeks ago we were almost down and out. This win is credited to Vita Dhani and the players as well who have done an incredible job,” said the Bollywood star.
Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dhani was thrilled with the manner in which his side claimed the ISL title.
“The game was only for the last five minutes, I could not take my eyes off it. People of Chennai, we believe in you like you believe in us and the cup is for you,” said co-owner Vita Dani. Ref – Goal.com
