58′ More attacks here from Chennai, who bomb forward with purpose again and Balwant takes a shot and the ball thunders into the side netting. Excellent try. NorthEast make a change: VELEZ ON, DADZIE OFF

56′ What just happened here! A long ball is lobbed to Mendoza, who was one on one with Bikey, who lets his man get time and space. Rehenesh, inexplicably comes way off his line and the Colombian dinks over the goalkeeper and the ball runs into the net. Controversially, the flag is raised!!!

55‘ Chennai get forward in droves and Balwant’s low ball is cleared out by Bikey for a corner. The ball is out for a goal-kick and Mendoza takes control of the ball but he gives away a foul too.

53′ Little bit of a scuffle there as Thoi goes down in the area. The NorthEast players are livid and the referee has a word with Andre Bikey. Elano did well to separate the two sets of players just when they were on the verge of getting into a confrontation.

52′ What a chance for NorthEast!! Reagan delivers an inch-perfect pass into the middle, where Dadzie was waiting and he was free, having wriggled away from Maison and Wadoo but his header is wide.

33′ GOAL!!! Chennai 1-0 NorthEast (Elano) WHAT A FINISH

A long ball was thumped forward to Mendoza, who chested it down and in a flash, Elano set himself up and thumped the ball, almost Ronaldinho-like to bullet the ball past Rehenesh.

29′ The play resumes and both the sides are being quite cautious here and Chennai makes some strides in the NorthEast area. Cleared.

The players are warming up on the touchline and 20 minutes is the time given for the play to kick-off again.

The players are ready to come on and the match will resume shortly

It is still pelting down heavily in Chennai and we learn that there can be a two hour delay before the start of the match, after which the game will be suspended. The play will resume on a later date if that is the case.

25′ There is thunder and lightening in Chennai and the referees deemed it unfit to continue. Play will resume once the skies clear out. Till then, the players head into the dugout but that has not dampened the mood of the fans, who have created a carnival-like atmosphere.

23′ Zakeer takes Siam Hangal down from behind and a yellow card is given against the Chennai midfielder.

21‘ The cross is sent into the far post by Elano and Raphael vies for the ball and it goes out of play. The Chennai defender is disappointed that he couldn’t make more of the opportunity.

Chennai play a long ball forward and Mendoza goes down holding in his face and replays show that Lopez had shoved his opponent. Yellow Card for Lopez and Chennai have a free kick.

17′ Kamara wins the ball at the back, keeping a close eye on Thoi. The midfielder keeps possession and the ball is passed around from side to side and Mendy does well; he dives and heads the ball clear from Dadzie. The NorthEast forward teased the Frenchman seconds ago with a couple of fancy lobs over his head.

15′ Chennai win a free kick! Kamara trips Thoi. The home side keep it short and Mendy plays a beautiful diagonal ball to Elano. Chennai lose and win the ball back quickly and Mendoza squares the ball to Elano in the middle and the shot from the skipper is tipped away by the keeper.

13‘ The rain has subsided somewhat and Chennai yet again give the ball away cheaply after a patient buildup. They get yet another crack at the target but Balwant fails to control a cross from the deep and the ball is out of play.

11′ It is all so blurry and hazy at the moment. Scrappy, Sunday league brand of football being played and Elano hoofs one forward trying to find Thoi Singh on the right and the ball is safely taken by the keeper.

8′ Elano takes a free-kick and the NorthEast players just about clear the ball near the goalmouth. The home side has possession but are not able to break the Highlanders down.

5′ Its pouring down here in Chennai and NorthEast are in a spot of bother as Seityasen is down with a nasty head injury. The midfielder has stitches on his head. He is back up on his feet.

Zakeer will be starting for Chennai for the first time for Chennai. Pawan the goalkeeper, who was signed recently will be the second choice keeper for Chennai. Quite surprisingly, quality players like Silas, Velez, Sanju Pradhan and Bruno Hengbart will be starting from the bench. Simao will get another start and Dadzie will be the lone striker up front.
