Chennai 3-0 Mumbai – Full Time

90+2′ Chettri…off the post!! Mumbai yet again don’t have the run of the green. Norde setting things up by dropping his right shoulder and getting past his man and plays a delicious reverse pass. Edel has given up and the shot cannons off the post.

90+1′ Mumbai continue their pursuit for a consolation goal. Benachour tries to bulldoze his way into the area and the Chennai defenders crowd him out.

89′ Mumbai are passing the ball around the Chennai box. The ball is crossed in but Edel comes out to pouch the ball.

87′ Excellent effort from Norde, The Haitian striker gets the ball in his own half and goes on a surging run, waltzing into the vacant spaces before crossing the ball to the far post. It was too long for for his teammate.

82′ Going for the final whistle here. Pellisari cuts in and goes for glory and the shot goes over goal

79′ Mendy gives away a foul as Norde was looking to turn and break away. No card shown. Benachour’s free kick is cleared and Elano has a pop from 70 yards out. Subrata sees the ball roll out for a goal kick.

77′ Terrific stop! Norde skims past Wadoo on the right flank and he is on a one on one with keeper Edel. The shot comes in but the Chennai goalie parries it away. It was Chennai’s insistence to sit back that paved the way for this attack.

75′ There is no getting past Mendy. It was one of Mumbai’s better moves of the game, passing the ball around with ease and Fanai and Benachour played good one-twos. The shot was on from the Moroccan midfielder but it bounced back out.

73′ Elano is playing in an advanced position and he was in an area of promise but could not get the ball past Ashutosh. The fourth one’s around the corner from the looks of it.

71′ Chennai’s defense is staunch and Piquionne just learnt that after dancing his way into the box. He could not get past the back-four.

68′ Elano, who had just come on for Mendoza is lucky to have got away without a card. He lunges on Rowilson.

66′ More wasteful possession as both teams decide to hoof the ball goalwards. Mumbai have a free-kick and Ashustosh’s long ball is aimless and Chennai start again.

63′ Mumbai have a chance — wasted. Norde, switching flanks here ran down the right channel and cut it back for Benachour, who was at the edge of the box and his shot went into orbit.

61′ Chennai continue to hog the ball and stride forward with purpose around the six-yard area. Players are sliding around everywhere and Pelissari takes out Ashutosh with a two-footed lunge and is correctly given a yellow card.

Mumbai had made a triple change at half-time: O’Dea, Aguilera and Bustos came off and they were replaced by SAran Singh, Benachour and Pratesh

57′ The soggy pitch continues to trouble players. Thoi Singh now goes to the turf and seems like he has injured his shoulder. That will be the last bit of action he will see in the game. He will be replaced by Godwin.

55‘ Mumbai now launch an attack and it is a long ball that goes straight to the keeper Edel.

53‘ The skies have cleared out a bit and Pellisari wastes it from a promising position. The Italian runs with the ball from the left wing, cuts in and shoots. Power and precision were lacking in the shot.

51′ There is a little more urgency in Mumbai’s attacks but lack bite upfront. The side lacks creativity in the middle.

Half Time It has been as one-sided as it can get. It is hard to see Mumbai get back in the game unless there is something mysterious about the waterlogged right end.

45+1′ GOAL!!! Chennai 3-0 Mumbai (Mendy) How did he get there, first of all? The game might well and truly be over. Thoi plays a quality reverse pass on the right, spotting the run of his skipper, who dinks the ball over the onrushing Subrata and the ball goes into the net this time.

44′ Subrata is doing quite the David de Gea tribute! Another excellent chance to triple the lead and it was because of some confusion between Fanai and Darren O’Dea. The ball rolled kindly to Mendoza but Subrata was right on the money again.

42′ Another superb start from Mendoza! The ball is played over the top and Mendoza is through on goal and the goalkeeper comes off his lines to block the ball. Close!

40′ Free kick for Chennai and Mendoza fails to get power and elevation on the shot and it is a nice, comfortable take for Subrata. Prior to the free kick, Fanai went into the book

38‘ That was nearly three! Fanai lost his footing in a one on one against Thoi, who cut it back neatly with the ball landing kindly for Chennai, stopping in a puddle. Jeje’s shot is saved though.

36′ Mumbai have a corner and is a tame one from Norde. The break is on and Pelissari is galloping down the right flank but Fanai gets back on time to clear the ball.

34′ Chennai keep flooding (no pun intended) the opposition area with attacks. The rain has eased out a bit and and Mumbai look uninspired up front.

28′ The ball stops on the field yet again and that could have easily been a third! Mendoza is clear on goal and has a shot in a one on one situation but Subrata does ever so well to parry the ball away.

23‘ Defensive change as Blasi comes on for Raphael, who is stretchered off the field.

20′ Man down for Chennai and there is some treatment taking place in mid-pitch. Raphael looks to be in quite a bit of pain. It continues to rain heavily here in Marina Arena.

18′ The semi-final spot is slowly slipping out of Mumbai’s hands and will need to produce their best football in the tournament to get back in the game. It is still Chennai who look the more threatening of the two teams.

16′ GOAL!!! Chennai 2-0 Mumbai  (Jeje) Mumbai have a free kick and the ball is cleared out easily. Chennai break away on the counter and it is rather unfortunate for Mumbai. A cross is floated in from the left and and the ball just stops on water, Jeje taps the ball into the net.

12′ Mumbai try to hit back and Chennai hold firm. Long balls keep floating in from one end to the other. The home side are enjoying a good spell of possession.

9′ GOAL!!! Chennai 1-0 Mumbai (Stiven Mendoza) That is No 11 for Mendoza and he simply cannot top scoring. It was a lovely through ball from Raphael, Mendoza runs clear and puts the ball into the net. With the rain refusing to die down, the ball just about rolls over the line.

8‘ Mendoza comes close and and it was after Subrata spilled a shot. Chennai players appeal for an incorrect back-pass. The referee waves play on.

6′ The match is living up to the weather and Mumbai struggle to create an attack. Chennai move forward with purpose again with Jeje but Cmovs is cleared out.

4′ Norde takes a free kick and the ball is floated into box and the ball is cleared out by the defense.

2′ The rain is still pelting down heavily and the pitch is so waterlogged the players are all set for a kickabout with the ball stopping in puddles. Thoi takes a shot and the ball whizzes over the bar.

The players are out, the national is blaring through the speakers and the match is all set to kick-off.

The kickoff will take some more time and there will be a delay in the start of play, which is now scheduled at 7.15 pm
